Imagine if suddenly all the office space in downtown San Francisco was suddenly unnecessary?

In 2016 tech folks were talking about artificial intelligence taking over most office jobs. In 2020 a global pandemic required most office workers to work from home and downtown San Francisco went from boom town to ghost town. In 2026, that AI future is becoming more real everyday which begs the question, how will such a major technological shift impact the cities we live in?

This project (completed in 2017) sought to illustrate a utopian world where office towers were converted to whatever individuals in the near future needed - housing, workshops, studios, spaces to explore and inspire.

In the style of the Surrealist party game “The Exquisite Corpse” where each guest adds a unique piece to the overall artwork, this project imagines abandoned office towers being democratized.
